Innovate BC
InnovateBC, previously called BC Innovation Council, is a Crown Agency of the Province of British Columbia, that supports technology startups and entrepreneurs through programs, funding, and competitions to facilitate technology commercialization.
I completed an eight-month co-op with InnovateBC between 2017 and 2018. In my time here, I worked on email campaigns, event planning, website management, and graphic design. But most impactfully, I worked on promoting the #BCTECH Summit, a three-day event hosted at the Vancouver Convention Center for technology leaders. I rebranded the entire event with a fresh and modern look, which was used on every print collateral and digital platform.
Branding Established
Stepping into my role as a Communications Specialist, I wore many hats. A few months into my co-op, the team began discussing the #BCTECH Sumit, and a potential rebranding. Turning to me, the management team asked me to come up with a few ideas that would revamp the event.
In the end, I created a clean, modern look and feel while keeping in line with pre-established colour guidelines. Each colour in the final mosaic represents a different sector in the B.C. economy. Two branches reach toward the center, representing togetherness at the #BCTECH Summit.
After finalizing the event’s new look and feel, this branding was utilized in many forms from print to digital. As the lead graphic designer, I was in charge of determining and creating how this brand would translate to the website, print banners, print pamphlets, mobile app, and so much more. Here are a few of the social media posts I created that incorporate the branding in unique ways. I created various posts including countdowns, sneak peeks, event information, and more.
Snapchat Filter
One unique project I worked on was to create a Snapchat filter to be used at the event. This was made with the intention to increase the attendee engagement and helped to spread awareness of the #BCTECH Summit to their audiences.
Social Media GIFs and Stories
Another regular project I took on was creating GIFs that were pushed on both social media as posts and stories, but also used as digital PPC ads.
On social media, I also led a unique campaign that targeted various user personas. Each archetype was given a GIF, that was accompanied by a blogpost and testimonial as to why they should attend the #BCTECH Summit.
These various GIFs eventually became a gateway to me creating a full animation to promote our mobile app.
2018 #BCTECH Summit
The end result of months worth of work and collaboration was seeing the branding that I desgined plastered everywhere for three days straight around the Vancouver Convention Center. This has truely been a highlight of my career so far, and will always be a great memory.
